There are so many things I am already missing about the GR11..
I miss the stunning scenery and ancient hamlets and villages. I miss the friendly local people that live along the GR11, I miss getting up early, knowing I will be spending another day on the trails. I miss the mountains and the lakes. I miss the food, beer and wine. I miss the other great hikers we kept meeting on the trail..
However, the one thing I miss most of all of my 51 days on the GR11 is….. THE WATER!
It’s impossible to explain how delicious the water was along the GR11. I used to get quite excited when I knew we were getting closer to a “Water Point” … Every hamlet / village had at least one water point where I could get my fill.
The water was un-treated, ice cold, and delicious! – The same goes for the water straight from the streams in the mountains, just bend over and drink straight out of the stream.
We took [ two of us ] a total of 200 water purification tablets and we used a total of 4!!
Since back home in the South West France, I now no longer drink from the tap, I fill up my bottles of water at an ancient Spring.. untreated and delicious..
